Alphonso Ramirez-Bakhtin is a violinist, vocalist, composer, and conductor based in NYC. Having embarked on his music journey at age 4 when he began studying violin, Alphonso has had years to deepen and finesse his musicianship. Whether effortlessly singing jazz tunes, creating fun arrangements of pop music, or adeptly sweeping through Beethoven symphonies and Dvorak quartets, Alphonso seamlessly blends into any genre and highlights its best qualities.
Raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in a Salvadoran and Taiwanese household, Alphonso writes music that has a strong connection to nature and at times addresses questions of place and belonging in an increasingly globalized world. His diverse heritage allows for nuanced and highly compelling performances of any repertoire.
During the day, Alphonso works as Assistant Director for the prestigious youth division at Manhattan School of Music, helping young talented musicians explore their passion and hone their skills.
Polina is a versatile NYC-based cellist and bassist known for her vibrant energy and joyful approach to music. Polina’s extensive experience in the city’s diverse music scene includes weddings/memorials/events, theatrical pit work, orchestral and opera performances, studio recordings in both classical and non-classical settings, teaching private lessons, and creative collaborations with contemporary composers. A reliable freelancer, Polina is a graduate of New York University, where she studied cello with renowned cellists Marion Feldman and Carol Ou.
Polina is passionate about breaking down the perceived exclusivity and rigidity of classical music, striving to share the inherent joy of classical music with audiences of every age and background.
Outside of music, Polina is training as a Marriage and Family Therapist - a dual passion that informs her music-making with profound intuition, sensitivity, and attention to detail.
Thomas Brown is a violist, violinist, and music educator based out of NYC. Holding degrees from NYU Steinhardt and Mannes School of Music, Thomas freelances around the city playing in orchestras, opera productions, and weddings/events, as well as recording strings for singer/songwriters.
Praised for his tone and musicality, Thomas strives to connect with audiences by evoking emotion from each musical piece he encounters. He loves collaborating with fellow artists, and enjoys working alongside composers to create innovative works for the viola. Aside from perfecting his classical technique, Thomas also dabbles in arranging and music production. Also a passionate music educator, Thomas provides violin, viola, and piano lessons to students of all ages and experience levels, primarily focusing on healthy playing habits, artistic interpretation, and enjoyment of musicality.
